Northeast Outlaw Series

Adam,

I was thinking the same thing! Something like the 2005 Farm series (outlaws and sanctioned) with at least a race a month from May to Nov. (minimum eight local races) - crowning Series Champ at the end! This schedule could be flexed around major national/international races that lots of NE racers attend.

For discussion purposes, I looked at some of the past races and the months they occured and put together a quick list. While I don't have a timer, I'd be willing to coordinate series points and help with timing/logistics at any MA races or other series coordination.

May - Middlesex Fells (to replace Needham since Karl is not in High School anymore)

June - Ball Mt., Magnolia, Jersey

July - Dovercourt, Jersey

August - Farm

September - Antrim, Berlin

October - Ball Mt.

November - Magnolia Woods

I know there have been other races in Quebec, at Dr. Dan's and Jersey races just wasn't sure what months.

It would be great to have a race in CT, MA, VT, NH, ME, NJ, QE and maybe NY or RI

Any thoughts, interest or volunteers?

that sounds like a great idea!

as for the possibility of NY or RI...i will begin scouting places in NY and see what I can do about getting access to a road seeing as I have the hook-ups with the local PD

Fells Outlaw is in the Works!!

I've been rained out twice in May, so we are going to plan a big race at the fells either June 14-15 or 21 and 22.

Ocean Frog Skate Shop (Malden MA) will be sponsoring and promoting this event. Although we tried for permits- we decided it's not worth it get the points so it will be outlaw. The fells is an absolutely perfect spot.

Expect open GS course for beginners and longboard converts.
Expect technical 50 cone hybrid slalom.

Is anyone interested in counting points for this year?

Karl,

How are things down in NC?

I can tally series points provided I get all the data. I was thinking of using two point levels if we can get a combination of sanctioned and outlaws scheduled. It could be fun to track overall and age bracketed racers through the season for a bunch of different "champions" at the end of the series.

Are you going to be back in May? I was thinking Fells a little earlier 5/31 - 6/1 or 6/7 - 6/8 as mid-June is busy for a lot of people with graduations and such? I personally like the earlier season race (for the east anyway) as a great kick-off into summer riding.

Great the Ocean Frog is on board!

Talk to you soon,
Terry

I think we could move it back to 6/7 or 8th.

I could help with keeping records for the series points, since I'm an accountant.

Also, anyone can take charge of having a race at the Dam. I pulled it off in the fall of 2006 with only ten days. All you have to do is contact PSR. He will give you the name of the person to talk with to attained permission. They will ask you a few questions about the number of racers, dates and times required for the race etc... They will let you know where to park etc... Not a whole lot of worked involved as PSR has a good rep. with the rangers. Also, I think you guys did a nice job of cleaning up the race site. In 2006, I just missed the first day of racing and the place was spotless. You could barely tell a race was held at that location. Great job you guys!!! So based on experience, I think the dam race would be easy to set up. Caution - They may ask for permits etc... Last time they did not because they indicated they had no problems with the racers in the past and it was the last weekend the dam was open. Also, PSR indicated the fall is not the best time to hold a race at the dam because of the shadows etc...

Let's make this the best outlaw farm series ever and give Joe I a break. He desrves it.

If no one else will this year, I will set up something at Magnolia woods. This race never happened last year, and I really wish it had.

Hey Nick,

Go for it. Don't wait for someone else to step up. Magnolia is a great place to race. If you start the process I'm sure the Chapman's & Derek will assist you. Regardless, if you hold a race peolpe will show up and help you through the process and on race day.

Just do it.

I will definitely be up for hosting a race or two this season and should have the equipment to do so.
I had the same idea as you guys. It would be great to get another race series started.
To help with the organizing, I started a "Google Group" to send out email reminders and to create a calendar to list the races.

http://groups.google.com/group/grass-ro ... n-calendar

Sign up for the group to get batch email reminders of events.
Post your event on the calendar (after discussing it here) to avoid conflicts.
We can use it if it's useful. If not, not.
Let's get it on!

See you in the thaw...

that sounds like a plan dan.

and thanks for the help at the farm this year...everything healed up nicely for the most part. nothing is showing on my head unless i make a muscle movement and just a small buldge shows up. the only major reminder of the crash is a huge scar on my hip

GOOD!!!!

'cause it was really fuckin' scary when you got on your knees and held your head and said, "Owwwww....it hurts!" over and over again!!!!!! And it didn't really get better till you kinda focused and said, "f#@k you Fatboy!". Then we all kinda felt better ;)

I'm really glad you have no long term issues, it just wouldn't be as much fun taunting you in a wheelchair!

Karl, did you ever talk to Tim at GSI about involvement with any of this? Just curious. Hope your college career is going well...see you on the pave...I've still got a ton of racing on snow to do.

Tim at GSI expressed some interest last fall in running a couple more NE slalom races...I mentioned Ball to him last October and he seemed interested. He has the resources as far as equipment and promo is concerned...I'll send him an email reminder linked to this thread.

Baltimore in the fall

Kenny & I just got contacted by Baltimore to throw a race at a festival (the fest was cancelled last year &, hence, so was the race) in the fall.....dunno the date right now but I bet it will conflict with someone else's race since we were contacted only Thursday. It will be on a briefly closed interstate(I-83). It will most likely be a jam format. I hope you will be able to make it....more info to follow. Plus, I hope to do more slalom this year. Peace out!!
