Deleting Posts, dispute on the Radikal/Pavel forums

Post by Wesley Tucker » Sun Jun 26, 2005 9:53 pm

From the PAVEL forum
Mark McCree wrote:Hey Wesley,

Don IS the moderator. you can see copies of the posts on the RADIKAL forum. He can't erase them there.
Mark,

Just for the record, theoretically I could delete your posts. There are I believe five adminstrators of SS.com who have the access to delete or edit other subscribers posts throughout the website. Moderators only have specific access to their assigned forum.

The reason I questioned the deletion of posts in the PAVEL forum is it is a policy of Jani's that we do not delete posts. There is a location on the website where Adminstrators and Moderators can move posts, but complete elimination of someone else's words is not a policy and for the most part very bad form. When I saw your words were missing, I was curious if you had decided to remove them yourself since I didn't see them available for public view or even private review. I knew they had been completely deleted. This concerned me. I don't like someone (even a moderator or administator) taking it upon themself to completely delete someone else's words. That's not what we are about at SS.com. As a matter of fact, that's why many slalomers subscribed to this website as opposed to frequenting other internet slalom discussion sites.

I do hope EVERYONE concerned realizes that someone else's words, no matter how objectionable or suspect, belong to them. Just whacking them 'cause you don't like it leads to much bigger problems than whether or not a deal between manufacturers goes down the drain.

Sometimes posts are better removed than left where they were posted. Posts like the ones we've seen in the Pavel/Radikal shoot out have little or no value once the initial shooting is over. As Don had said he'll remove all posts on Monday (ie after a few days) I suggested to him I'll move them over the Thrash bin forum that we use to "delete posts" ie take them out of public sight. Donald preferred to remove them right away and let the quarrel become history. Sometimes I have backup copies, but this happened too fast for me.

Keeping deleted topics/posts sometimes has a value as they are proof of what really happened and could be brought out if really needed.

It could also be that we, the admins of this site, misinterprets a post and moves them to the thrash bin even if they didn't deserve this treatment, then it's useful to be able to bring them back again.

In the topic that led to this posting I hope that Donald Campbell and Mark McCree withdraws from further quarrel. Both has said more than enough. I don't see much value in keeping it going.

right on,i can't add anything more to what you-jani or wes-wrote,regarding this incident.

i,myself, have said what had to be said,i also want to refrain from slandering on this site.

besides that,as i told marc before,i don't have any respect for his slandering on my ground.
i regard the pavel-section as a ground for sharing interests, ideas, good vibes.

therefore i have zero tolerance for anybody who tries to profile himself in any way at cost of my team or my person.
i think that mccree crossed that line more than once during the last few days, also in use of words.
i told jani,in the meantime, that i will refrain from doing so,once i get word from him or anybody else who as administrative responsibilities on this forum.

this is all i can offer to end this useless debate.
mccree already knows what i think about him, nobody needs the rest of this conversation.

Donald,

I wish you would have written only the above phrase in your previous post. The rest was just a bit too much.

Hopefully McCree will abstain from further responses, at least in this specific thread.

Porn, slalom and the slashing red editor's pen.

Real Quick:

When the hackers come and post some link to a porn site or whatever and then someone makes a clever reply, it all goes in the trash.

So don't anyone be offended if a running thread started in a "NEW TOPIC" for porn is deleted. I'm probably going to delete the whole topic AND the hacker's profile.

Let's be reasonable. We know what it's all about.

I just deleted a few Russian sign ups and moved a few of their posts to the Thrash can. Didn't want the time to find someone speaking Russian to valide it first. Anyway they didn't sign up with their full name and that's what we ask for.

Don't hesitate to write to me or Wesley to point such things out. Ideally, don't write to us both at the same time.
