John Karg at Woody's Halfpipe in Atlanta put on a great outlaw Saturday at the Avalon Ridge Parkway. More than 20 racers who were all Georgia locals plus me from South Carolina rode two really great courses in between a few rain drops. We first ran a treacherous little dual course that had a fun curve at the bottom. It was just enough to get your hips out of whack and make you work for it down at the finish line.
Setting up is hard to do. John Karg (right with tape) has taken on slalom in Georgia and really inspired a great crew to run cones.
The locals are getting the hang of it and although are a bit casual in practice, really charge it hard at race time.
And then the rains came . . .
. . . and came some more
This, though, is the South. If you don't like the weather, give it five minutes. It'll change.
After running tight the first part of the day, we moved up the hill afte things dried out from the SECOND rain shower. The hill went from completely wet and glossy to bone dry in about 20 minutes. Cool.
Tom "The King Of Georgia" Thompson came up from Dublin and he and Ron Olsen set a really fast, makeable rhythmic course for the Hybrid/GS race, The single-lane jam session went until everyone was beat and ready to quit.
It was a great day and truly in every sense a grass roots/outlaw kind of race. This is what makes things better for everybody. Thanks to John Karg, Matt and everyone who made it more than worth my while to make the drive Saturday. k
