Luna 2006

Post by Ricky Byrd » Wed Mar 15, 2006 4:54 am

Luna is on officially as of last Friday. The venue is awesome for Luna this year. I've been holding off to make sure I had it before going public. It's no derby hill but it will be a great place for racing, for the public and an even better place for racers to set up pits during the day and gather at night.

Look for online sign ups on the other channel later tonight.

Wheels, wheels, wheels . . .

Post by Wesley Tucker » Wed Mar 15, 2006 3:51 pm

I do hope Ricky is paying attention to this thread!

On the sign up, you said Cole road was "moderately steep with 6 or 7 out of 10 asphalt." That has me wondering.

Do you think I need to get some 78s or will my 80s do the job? And do you STOCK 78 slalom wheels that I could pick up Friday afternoon after seeing the surface before race time?

I'm watching WT.

The surface may not be perfect but it also depends on my course. I've said that the course will be relatively mellow, traction may not be an issue, right? This is only the Friday night outlaw so don't sweat it to much. On the Saturday hill I run 90/86 or 82 combos.

I do STOCK 78's. Nice pick ZigZags would look great on the kite.

About Jackson/Ridgeland roads

Post by Wesley Tucker » Mon Mar 20, 2006 10:50 pm

Laura,

Thanks for the update. I've already, though, booked my room at the Studio 6 where I stayed last year. It's clean, big suite rooms and $49 a night. No breakfast or pool, but I can live with that. I've got to where I really like the suites motels with real refrigerators and big kitchens where I'm not knocking my elbows on the walls trying to make a cup of coffee!

One other thing. I forgot to ask Ricky or Clifton this in Texas, so I'll ask it here. Is County Line Road still all tore up with construction around the Interstate? I know last year the only bummer the whole weekend was that mess trying to get to Ridgeland to the race site. Finally on my last night there I found the "back way" up State Street, but there's still no way to get on the Frontage Road to the motel without getting on County Line.
Just wondering.

Oh, is the Drury Inn right there at County Line and State? I remember a big motel there on the corner and think it had "Drury" across the front. I might be wrong.

No, County Line Road is fixed. Yes, that's Drury on County Line and I-55 North. Well, sounds like you got the pimp set up, WT. Thanks for posting that!!!

Hill Location

Post by Wesley Tucker » Fri Mar 31, 2006 2:39 pm

Byrddog,

Between now and May could you find a street address on or near the hill? That makes it easy to MapQuest it. I'd like to get a printout and put it in the car to take.

Although we appreciate all your efforts, MapQuest really does work a little better than your hand-drawn map :-)

Clay,

Byrddog updated the NCDSA Contest Calendar with the info.

You are correct. It's not a rumor.

Ricky and Slalom Gang,
Last night my wife was given the news that her Mom's condition (who has been on life support for over a week after a stomach surgery went terribly bad) has worsened. The family is being called in to make a decision about continuing life support. Because of this situation, I will not be able to make the trip to Luna. I will miss being with you all this weekend.

Evan St. Clair, my DHB teammate, is still planning on coming if he can work it out. He has been working hard and skating well. If he can make it, make sure you give him a shout out and show him some of that slalom stoke you all have shared with me.

I will be offline until next week. To all of your going to Luna go BRING IT!!!!!

As always Rick and RKR put on a Great race!!!! The outlaws enjoyed it (some more than others. . . right Ryan! :) ) Big thanks go out to Frank and Laura Henn for the excellent trophies they made. All were made from wreckage that was left by Katrina.

Here are a few pics for you.

Big Thanks to all of you who have posted, sent emails, and made phone calls of sympathy for my wife and our family with the loss of her mother. I have cut and pasted all of your comments to a file and will be sending it to her, her sister, and the rest of the family so that they too can see the Love that is shared by the Slalom community for each other.

Thank you all so much! If you haven't realized it yet, this sport has something incredibly special and that is the people in it. We all share a common love for this sport but more importantly, we share a common connection with each other. I hope this never changes.

Share the stoke, share the love, and go do something for someone else each day.

Your friend,
