Practice

Post by Rick Stanziale » Wed Jul 16, 2003 1:00 pm

I've been practicing for Da'Farm, running the 36 cone, 1.7m center ISSA course on a pretty decent hill.

I couldn't run it clean, my best was 2 cones.

I started to pack up as the light of day faded away when the streetlights came on! Promptly reset the "hippie"/cali course and skated for another 30 minutes.

Anybody interested in racing outlaw in Georgia on Friday night, this is the spot, we'll do a long (100 cone?) giant slalom.

hey tom...I think he was talking about the friday night before the race. he's gonna have a tour of hills and an outlaw setup at the hunn for the non transition people, and I'm gonna have a tour of skateparks. actually, the tour of skateparks might end up at the hunn outlaw deally since the athens skatepark's only like 2 miles from the hill.
**************************
running the issa cones on the steeps at the hunn is very difficult. the hill takes a steeper pitch about halfway through the course and that's where I lose it. 66 had a few runs where he almost made it clean, and at the end he was moving so fast...
I am INVINCIBLE.

are you going to Holliens bday jam? I can't go, I'm out of kitchen passes for the summer.

That bastard 66 said something in another topic about "bringing wheels next weekend to Picnicville." Y'all got something going on next weekend? Is it cones or wall riding?

Let me know. If it's going down on Saturday I might drive over. Got Christmas stuff on Sunday.

Wesley - plans are for sat. 20th at Picnicville. Slalom in the parking lot and bank riding in the skatepark. El Bastardo says some slalom newbies are going to be there.

Damn it Rick- you're gonna be fast. I don't even bother to practice the ISSA distance. Try some narrow trucks.

I will be heading your way at some point to visit some family in St. Louis. Let me know when temps are in the 70's and we'll skate a few courses. I'd like to drop a few courses for you down there for marking.

I think I peaked around Da'Farm last year, I'm gonna give the slalom circuit another go this year and racing in Europe is on my list.

It's been cold (50's) here lately, but we usually do have some days in the 70's in January and February before spring comes back in March.

Keep us informed, I'll make sure the whole damn crew gets out to skate with you.

Tom, Rick and all those concerned:

What time? I'd hate to show up and hang around the park for three hours or get there just in time as everyone is packing up to go home.

Yeah, I know: "Let's all get there at noon, but tell Wesley 7 AM!"

I'm thinking 11 to noonish, but it's Rick's call...Yeah, we'll need you there around 8am to rope-off the parking lot and stand guard till we show up. :-)

Ok. One last question before Saturday. I thought that somewhere this year on SS.com I had read a link to a website that gave directions to the skatepark in Picnicville. Unfortunately, my perusal of all posts related to "Picnicville" came up empty. I know I've seen a map before on how to get to this place, but I can't find it.

Would one of you please be so kind as to post the street address for the park or some other relevant information? If I can get an address, I can find it on MapQuest.

Thanks.

Mother Tucker and I braved the cold Georgia winter (low 40's) and spent several hours going through the paces. He put the new Blackbird through cones I could only make on my Hollien TS. Radikals have ruined me for conventional trucks, I just can't make them turn anymore.

Not only was that my first chance to run the KHTS, but it also was my first opportunity to give the new Radikal bushings a real workout. Two thumbs up and an around the cone snap, McCree has done it again.

Wesley, let down your Scabophobia and get a set of Radikals, I've already talked to Carpenter about a Blackbird.

Thanks for the session - see you at the end of January at the bus terminal in Charleston.

Hey Thompson, sorry you couldn't make it, hope Ashley is doing better - you should have seen Wesley make the Hooters girls blush, heh heh.

much love,
Santa 66

Rick,

I don't know about you, but my gut sank when we turned off Pleasant Hill and onto I-85. Five lanes of traffic going NOWHERE, bumper to bumper and not even thinking about moving. All I could imagine was this mess stretching all the way to Commerce. I'd be 12 hours trying to get home. Thank god it was just a four car pile up a mile up the road. After I got past the mayhem it was smooth sailing all the way. Got home last night about 8:30.*

Rick and I made a decision yesterday: we'll treat any forecasts of below-50 temps as the same as rain. I know, the DC guys and Nor'easters beg for temps in the '40s, but there's a reason I live down south and it ain't the smell of Magnolia blossoms! Although 66 and I both agreed that when the breeze went to Zero, it was actually tolerable out in the sun.

Picnicville is a decent little practice spot where we can gather and do some cones without a hassle. What's more is the whole area is one hill after another. With a little investigative work, we might find a really good spot for regular racing in Norwood-Duluth. Plus, I'll have to say the Duluth, Ga. Hooters has the hottest Hooter girls I've seen yet. Not a skank in the bunch.

I liked Rick's PS board and I've told Gareth getting one is on my list. I don't know if I'll do the KHTS or not, but something in a wood-laminate is good for me. I spent most of the day yesterday on the Stealth, but I did get to spend some time on the BB as well. Both are killer machines. I can't wait to really spend some time on both just flogging some offsets for a couple of hours regularly.

Rick, thanks for the hospitality and I'll certainly return the favor in January. If not Hooters, maybe we'll hit the Wild Wing or Bull & Finch pubs. Both are cool, great food and decent wait staff :-)

By the way, did you notice the Fal-can'ts? I'll be damned if they didn't almost blow it and lose that lead in the fourth quarter.

*No, there were no injuries. So just stow the belly aching about what a heartless bastard I am.
