Wes - I'm assuming you're back in Athens this weekend for the ceremonial thrashing of the 'cocks?

Lou Holtz: We're 30 point underdogs.

Mark Richt: You too?

If you are, look me up, I'll skate on to campus and do a slalom demo with you.

Officer Friendly: What the hell do you call that?

WT: Parallel stance

Rick,

Nope. One trip to Athens a year is all I can handle. The game's on CBS and I've got some big doings around here watching the game with some friends.

Thanks for the invite. And tell Officer Friendly to lay off the donuts.

This is completely out of bounds, but I feel like bragging a little bit. If anyone checks out ESPN this weekend or CBS television, there will be a feature about high school football. The coach at Summerville High School is going for his 500th career victory tonight. For anyone who's played football or been involved with it will know just how monumental this is.

Coach John McKissick has been on the job 52 years and has averaged over 9 wins a year and has 10 state championships under his belt. He was also the 1980 National High School Coach Of The Year. He's won more organized league football games than any other coach. That includes Amos Alonzo Stagg, Bear Bryant, Eddie Robonson, Don Shula or Tom Landry. What's more, a long time ago he showed a really novice no-nothing young rookie sportswriter the patience of Job and taught him more about the game and what it takes to win that any other lesson I could have ever experienced.

We all come from someplace and I feel a little proud that where I come from is such the center of attention tonight. Anyway, it'll be on some of the major media outlets this weekend. If you see it, you'll see a piece about where I come from. Now if you'll excuse me, I got an 8:00 kickoff to make!

P.S. Now you watch: Wando High School is going to win this friggin' game and all the celebration will have to put on hold for another week. Ain't it always the way?

Just got home. 34-17 'da Ville. Wasn't even close. Kicker started the scoring with a long field goal and the Green Wave pushed it to a 17-0 score before Wando ever got on the board.

The second half Summerville did what it does best: put it on the ground, chewed up the yards and just ground their defense into mulch. We're number one in the conference, number one in the State and favored to win Coach's 11th state title.

All in all, a decent Friday night.

This morning was even better than usual. Originally, the welcome page had a blaring headline "Mongol Horde sues Nevada Casino." Now, doesn't that make you want to sit up and take notice? (Seems a biker gang got into a fight with the Hell's Angels and now thinks Harrah's Inc. ought to pay for it.)

Then, upon learning of the death of the coolest guy in Rock & Roll, they decided to update the headline, but forgot to change the picture.

It's the little things that make life worth living!

When you were a kid, which was more fun: Christmas morning or the days leading up to December 25th? It seems that most of my memories from that time centers around "getting ready" for the big day as much as anything that happened opening presents.

That's the way I feel right now. I got the following in transit between me and some folks out West:

(2) Indy 101 Offsets from Chicken. Barrett said in an e-mail yesterday that, "These are also a newer version that have a built in speed ring and are a little beefier all around." Sounds interesting.

From Longskate.com, I got the following coming in:
(2) Tracker RT-Xs
(4) 80-a Avalons
(4) 85-a Avalons
(2) sets of Bones Medium and Soft Hardcore bushings. (They were on the website at $5 a pop, so I'm hoping they are in stock.)

Tway told me to get the new metal Seismics, but I might wait until after I get the boards set up and running before I experiment with a completely new truck system.

Now, as soon as Ed Lynn gets his inventory squared away and I can get some ceramics, I'll be set to ride two new boards that have been laying around here naked for some months: my PP Stealth and my Turner Blackbird.

It's going to make for a challenging winter of riding. After the hiatus I took this year I'm really looking forward to getting back in the saddle and do some serious cones. I feel like I did in the Spring of 2002: completely cold after an extended layoff. At least this time I'll be doing stuff with newer gear and of course 25 pounds lighter! That might make a difference.

Anyone ridden Chicken's 88mm Indy yet? It's thin and I'm thinking that maybe a retrofit on my orange stiff Turner might be a good thing? Some Cambrias or No Skoolz with a stock Mid Track up front might make it a trick Hybrid board?

I just can't seem to give up and retire my stuff. You'd think after a while all my vintage eqipment would earn a well-deserved rest. I just can't bring myself to do it. Hell, last night I was wondering about Avalons and Offset Indys on my H-Bomb, just like HH rode at Akron (well, the wheels are different.) Wouldn't that be a fun GS ride?

They're all here, they're all set up:

Turner Blackbird with Indy Offset and Avalon whites in back and Tracker RT-X with Avalon grays in front.

Pocket Pistol Stealth with Indy Offset and Avalon whites in back and Tracker RT-X with Avalon grays in front.

The only difference I made in the set ups is with the Blackbird I put the wide spacer on the inside of wheel with the Indy and on the outside on the Stealth (the Blackbird has a wider track in the rear than the Pocket Pistol.) Angled risers are also on both boards all the way around.

I also got PT Ceramics but installed new Sealed 7s for riding around and getting up to speed on the new stuff. I should have pics to post sometime during the TG weekend. I making it a point NOT to ride either board until after I get some decent shots. I want pristine stuff to glimmer for the camera!

Now, would someone PLEASE tell TK to get off my back about my "vintage" quiver? :-)

P.S. The 'Cocks were AWESOME! Stomped the Midshipmen 73-40 and held Navy to the lowest scoring total of any team in 33 years. I got a nephew who's a plebe at the Academy (the "other" Wesley Tucker) and a niece in her third year at the Orange Abyss. Should be an interesting Thanksgiving holiday.

I didn't know where else to post this, so I decided to put it here in my own forum topic. It's completely off topic, but sort of personal/professional related.

If in the first two or three weeks in January anyone goes into a LOWE'S Store, ask for a copy of the 2004 PLANNER AND REFERENCE MANUAL. It's free, pocket sized at 6"x4" and 144 pages of all kinds of good stuff for construction, plumbing, electrical, conversion tables, commonly used symbols, etc. Plus it has a 52-week planner/Calandar in the back.

Why am I mentioning this? BECAUSE I DID IT! I just spent the past two months designing, laying out, drawing, typesetting, a little writing and proofing of the whole 144-page pocket reference. It went to press two weeks ago and this week and next we are spending all our time collating, stitching, trimming, packaging and shipping 100 copies each to over 1000 Lowe's stores. Yes, the print shop where I'm working is producing 100,000 copies of this mutha'.

Anyway, it's something I'm rather proud of and it'll be in a store near you anytime between tomorrow and the middle of January. If anyone out there is interested in seeing what I do for a living, plus having a decent little reference for woodworking, concrete and interior wiring, here's your chance. What has us excited is that Lowe's has said that if they get positive feedback from the first 100,000 copies, there's a good chance of a reprint of at least ONE MILLION copies.

Oh, my achin' back!

My Father DOES NOT Drive An Oldsmobile!

Posted: Mon Apr 12, 2004 1:45 am
by Wesley Tucker
My parents have driven various Lincoln Town Cars for at least 20 years. One of the reasons is that my mom really liked the ride and found it to be the most comfortable she could find among all the available coupes and sedans out there on the market.

Well, my 72-year old father decided that a big Town Car was "just too much car for just me to drive by myself." Today I went over to pick up the old man to go to Easter Dinner and sitting in the drive way is a . . . cherry red, fully-loaded, removable hard-top 2004 Ford Thunderbird. . . complete with port hole! He's had it for three days and never said a word to me. He's already road tripped in it to Myrtle Beach to visit family.

I drove it to a friend's house where we had dinner and found it to be an excellent ride. The reversed-white gauges took a little getting used to and it was on the way back before I realized the steering TELESCOPES in and out, not just up and down. No wonder I couldn't get the seat-steering adjusted right. I also found it to be a tad claustrophobic, but I think that's because it has the low roof line (just like the Camaro,) but doesn't have the glass t-tops. Makes it feel a lot more closed in than my Chevy.

It's still a damned Ford, but I have to admit the old man did really right!

Calling all cars: be on the lookout for a tattooed bald rocket scientist late of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

There is a heap of grief waiting on his insect-lovin' ass about why we're all making plans to watch the College World Series this weekend and he's still crying in his Shirley Temple?

I had a great weekend. Florida played Miami (no matter what, FLORIDA LOSES!) Jaw Ja played Jaw Tech (no matter what, Jaw Ja LOSES!) and the 'Cocks haven't lost a game since Reagan was alive.

I guess I'll just have to take solace in the fact that Bastard 66 also get's to watch a little baseball this weekend.

Mr. Gill,

Glad to see you pop up. Haven't heard much from you since the Red Clay race. Do you have any races this year on your itinerary? (Well, other than Jaw Ja?) Ya' gotta try and make it to 'da Farm this year.

By the way, your bearings suck! (heh, heh, heh.)

P.S. Not only does The Wreck have a baseball team, it got it's ass summarily whipped without mercy by the Criminoles up at the A-nybody C-an C-heat soiree' in Virginia. How they ever got a bid to the Regionals is anybody's guess. Oh, I know: they probably lied on their resume' about their accomplishments in the past. I hear it's a trend in Atlanta :-)

Yeah, well your trucks suck!!

Races on my itinerary...nope. Big changes coming in our household, time and money have both been in very short supply this year. Time will soon start to become more abundant, but money remains an issue. I would love to make it to Athens this year (my god, did I just say that?) and I will if I can, but I just can't "plan" on it right now. It's a great event and I would hate to miss it.

I haven't been on a slalom board in months. All my practice spots are gone to construction, traffic, added parking, whatever. The street in front of my house is all greasy now because the New Jersey hillbilly family messed it all up...the kids spraypainted the street then Dad poured gasoline all over it to remove it. Now we have a tarpit for a street. Woe is me. Skating parks and ramps every chance I get (which is only once or twice a week unfortunately), I guess that's enough for now since the Cali guys are all about cross-training, they must be right. I really do need to run some cones again soon, gotta find a spot...

Semiholes beat us in baseball? Good for them, at least our guys will have JOBS when they graduate LOL. I don't know about Atlanta and lying on resumes...here in Florida we just work for 40% less than everyone else...

December 16, 1994: I bought my Z-28 Camaro.

For 10 years and 153000 miles, it looks pretty damned good, if I do say so m'self!

Quick point of useless information. When coming home from the DC Outlaw races, it gets really long and a tad tedious down around North Carolina. To stay awake and make the miles go by, I find myself thinking about things that are pretty irrelevant but somehow interesting. When I was coming home in November, I got to thinking about the miles I've put on this same Camaro driving up and down I-95 and a few other interstates all over the East Coast. Here's what I came up with:

Round Trip Miles
Gathering '02 1050
Boston 2100
DC outlaw race, 7/02 1050
Da' farm '02 1600
Red Clay Cup '02 500
MSSS '02 1000
Da' Farm '03 1600
Red Clay Cup '03 500
DC Outlaw Race 1/04 1000
DC Outlaw Race 2/04 1050
DC Outlaw Race 3/04 1050
Luna Slalom Jam 1500
Gathering '04 1050
Red Clay Cup '04 500
MSSS '04 1000
DC Outlaw Race 11/04 1050

TOTAL MILES 17600

So about 10% of the miles on my hot rod was getting to and from slalom races. There's probably a few out there with a lot more miles on airplanes, but it would be cool to find out who's got more miles on the highway getting to races?

Not that I'm counting, you understand.

Hey WT!

I vote for you for the most mileage competing in the DC Outlaw Races for sure...I only have a 100 mile RT for those....and probably for the most travelled on the east coast...if I can count work and slalom....I'm about to hit 78,000 miles on my hybrid Honda Civic and I still have a month and a half before I've had it for 2 years....St Louis'03: 1800, Dafarm 03,04: 500 +500= 1000, Gathering sat & sun 03,04: 400 total, NJ Bigskate 400(oops, no, lbk drove that time, WV 03,04 1600, Dc Outlaw Races 03,6x100=600, Dc Outlaw 04: 3x100=300;Fountainhead04:200,Kona(that was the yr before I got my car, same w/Folly Beach, Brooklyn Red Bull Banked Slalom(I helped Dave Duncan emcee):500; Jackson,Mississippi(I flew down on SW); Lansdowne Banked Slalom 0ct04:70;Ga State Champs03: I dont remember how I got there...that was some good ****....if I incl travelling to skateparks I can add up some miles....you got me, WT....way to go! Next time you are up, you can crash at my house to save on hotel $....but then I'm another 50 miles north of the P&R. Maybe Jason Mitchell has more miles....maybe...since he tugged along w/the camper to DaFarm and I'm sure he did that to other races as well while roadtripping...but I believe you had the quickest turnaround trips, WT! You are def the most travelled to the Dc Outlaw races.....hope to skate with you again, soon!

Pssst.... John, WV '03 '04 1600 ?? you took a wrong turn, deserves another! However, I'm in a position to validate your mileage of 16,000,000.03 miles for the services rendered!

I found this today in the local paper:

"1977 MGB Convertible New Austin Powers paint job. 4 cyl, am/fm cass, needs carpet & top. $5000 firm 834-1516 No tire kickers please."

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a "covertible" that needs a top really just a ROOFLESS CAR? Not very convertible if you're still outside no matter what you do! And let's not even go down the road where this car has the Union Jack splattered all over the hood . . . er, bonnet.

Two new Roes and no way to ride

Posted: Sun Jun 05, 2005 4:40 pm
by Wesley Tucker
I got home from St. Louis last Monday night and had two new Roes waiting for me on the front porch. I got two PS Unlimiteds, one medium and one stiff.

Now, six days later I have had ZERO skate time. It has rained intermittantly and interminably this whole week. The asphalt around me has stayed completely soaked, wet and damp non-stop for a week. I went down to the Bus Depot last night and it was soaked. Even though it's under cover, the busses in and out all day carried enough water to wet the place down and at 9:30 last night there was still standing water in the middle of the lane. Totally bummed.

Two new boards set up for a week and they still have clean wheels. I have no clue after a week if these machines are worth the money. Oh, just to make Gareth's life interesting, I'll let y'all know he sold me COMPLETES. I told him I wanted a couple of decent boards to replace my aging H-Bomb but didn't want to dick around with getting all the components. So he quoted me a price and shipped both boards set up and ready to go: RT/S-X trucks, angled risers, nuts and bolts, PT ABEC 7s and Avalons all the way around. I took them out of the box and they are ready to ride. The whole deal took a month from payment to delivery.

But I'm not riding. It's insufferable, man, just plain insufferable.

Marty,

Beats me. I'll probably decide Friday morning what I want to do. It's only four hours for me, so driving up Saturday morning is no big deal. Who knows? I might take the day off Friday and come up and ride HP solo then ride with y'all the next day.

We've gotten a little paranoid at Hobby Park about setting courses ON the painted lane lines. They are THICK AND HEAVY and could be trouble if cutting a cone on top of one. I'd like to get up there and experiment a little to see if it's as much of an obstacle as it appears or just a mind game that we can forget about. Also, If i get up there on Friday, I might be able to go ahead and set up a dual tight course on the run out hill and a good single lane GS on the main hill. Then if anyone has a mind to play some more, another faster hybrid dual can go down over top of the GS on the main hill.

Being in St. Louis really spoiled me when it comes to course setting. Goad and the Daggers had everything set and ready prior to Saturday morning's Outlaw and Sunday's main. Just showing up and setting down the cones on the marks really makes life simple. I'm hoping I can save a lot of time Saturday by maybe getting that dealt with Friday.

We'll see. No plans, just thinking out loud.
