1970's 8mm films from Georgia

Post by Ron Olsen » Sun Dec 30, 2012 1:43 pm

On a recent visit to my family I uncovered some of the old 8mm films my Dad and I had taken from when I was a kid. There was a slalom series in Peidmont Park in Atlanta, which at the time was about 120 miles north of where my family lived. We went to big city to race, where I did pretty well as I won one or two the the events. Anyhow, these old films show off the racing from back in the day. You can see most of the kids riding on thin fiberflex style boards. One of the films is from a contest in Columbus Georgia at the Odyssey skatepark. At that contest Huck Andress was brought in to judge the freestyle event, and put on a demo. It's pretty fun to watch Huck, he was pretty amazing jumping over things. To this day I remember the impression he left on me with all the different skateboards he had, short, medium, long, it seemed he had about 50 with him. That and how cool he was with his pads down around his ankles, I remember emulating that when I got home from the event.
