Just wanted to throw out an idea for debate.

Since the first 2 of Brian's DC Summer Outlaw races were rained out, what about an indoor backup site for race #3 next weekend? Would the Quincy Parking Deck work?

Looks like this weekend might be a dry one for a change. But if for some odd reason it rains, I say lets show up at the Quincy Parking Deck and slalom with the Devil himself.

I ran cones for the first time there tonight and I could barely get 20 cones in at 6' but after a bit, it started to get fun. Though that might be that I have not run cones since WV but in a pinch, "Grunge Garage Racing" is better than sitting at home in front of the tv in NY, NJ, PA, VaBeach, or the DC area.

BTW, when I was running cones at the Quincy Parking Deck tonight, the drunk ass hash runners were partying up after a run. Must have been close to 50 of them there w/ the suds flowing.

Any of you guys that are heading up to Brain's race in NJ on Sunday are welcome to crash at my place. It's not far out of the way and beats a hotel or driving all day. I live about 1 hr south of William Patterson U, I think.

Unfortunately, I can't join you guys in G-burg on Sat and I can't be at the race on time on Sunday. I do plan to get there as soon as I can though. Nevertheless, my door is open if any of you want to get most of the drive done on Sat night. .....So Dave, Aaron, BP, Vlad...let me know if I need to have cold beer in the fridge on Sat night. (like I dont already...) ...goes for you too, Rick and Tom.

The race will be at the Gaithersburg P&R this weekend. We will start practice for the longboard slalom at 10am.

Longboard racing 10:45-11
Traditional racing - 12
Spec Class - immediately after trad.

Longboard will be the best of two runs - single lane

Traditional will be 2 qualifying runs on dual courses. We will run a bracket of 16. If you do not qualify in the top 16 we will have a b-class bracket of 8 for positions 17-24.

Expect a box start with enough room to get about three pushes to the first cone. The course will be tight-ish simmilar to the one set last summer that everyone liked.

Spec class will be same as traditional. Same course.

Everyone knows by now that this is an outlaw race. Pads are optional. Skate at your own risk. If we get shut down by the MAN there are a few other outlaw spots around Gaithersburg that we can use as a backup.

Directions:
Take I270 north from DC to Exit 10 (Clopper Rd). Go to the 2nd traffic light and turn right onto Quince Orchard RD. Go to 2nd traffic light again and turn right into the P&R lot. We will be in the upper left corner.

Also, as far as backup spot, I noticed right around the corner on the way towards Seneca, theres a new big huge building after (I think) Bowling alley, has HUGE parking lot that has a good slope, & wanders back behind building outta sight from road. Dont know if its guarded though.

I'm just curious... have we ever been shut down at the Park and Ride during daylight hours? I don't recall any, but I've missed several on account of work.

No, we have never been hasseled during the day. So I am sure everything will be cool.

Jeff, I will bring Bahne boards and several other setups for guys to use.

If Noah can't make the race on sat then I may have a marathon driving weekend ahead of me (NYC to DC on sat...NYC to Syracuse on sun....Syracuse to NYC via Albany, NY on Monday...I wish I had a GTI car...blah)...anyway...there is a 75% chance I will be down in DC on sat regardles of Noah's plans...

I know it's been posted but Brian P can you post the timeline for the various events. As I remember the slalom slalom events arein the afternoon, 2pm'ish....

I miss racing all you guys! I gotta make SOME kinda effort to defend my DC summer outlaw series title from Vlad/Ohm/Noah/Kimball/WesE/Brian P/etc......

I can't beleive it. If it rains tomorrow maybe we can hit the parking garage Dave posted about and run a Flat 10-12 cone course. Or even hold a Flatland freestyle or longboard freestyle session.

Brian, are you waiting until saturday to call the race? I haven't looked at the weather but if you can call it by tonight maybe we can run it on Sunday.

Posted: Fri Jun 20, 2003 4:33 pm
by Brian Parsons
weather.com had 80% on Saturday and 30% on Sunday. How can this happen. For the last two months only 1 dry weekend.

Kevin if we push the race to Sunday or next weekend does that screw up your hotel reservations?

I am afraid to move the race to Sunday since even if it stops raining by Sunday morning it may take several hours for the lot to dry.

Racing a 10-15 cone course in a parking garage sounds about as much fun as surfing in my bath tub.

If LBK was up to it and could bring the quick setup timer we could all meet up at Vans and do an outlaw banked slalom race or a modified park slalom.

I am open to any suggestions.

I vote for next Saturday, also. I can cancel my reservations (without a penalty) for this weekend up until 6:00 tonight.

I'm hoping that we can add/re-schedule a few more DC outlaw events this summer.

Too bad we can't find a warehouse for some dry, flat slalom when it rains(or snows). Smooth concrete, ramps, heat in the winter........

I don't know where weather.com gets their weather forcasts from, but noaa.gov says, for Gaithersburg, 50% chance of rain on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday. At least the weekend isn’t a total washout. We should have a timed practice at the G-P&R on Sunday.

DC crew,
Iam up to do some park or banked slalom at vans. Me and my dad were planning on coming up on sat,. Is sunday still an option if is a rain out?

The rain gods must be angry.

I vote for next Saturday for a re-scheduled outlaw race since it appears that the weather will be more favorable then.

It will also give my leg a rest and a little time to heal since I hurt it the other day riding with my son Aaron. I still swear someone shot me in the calf muscle with some type of rubber or wooden bullet !!! I have been hobbling around but its getting better.

Let us know any Banked Slalom at Van's. We might make the trip for that., if not next weekend for an Outlaw will be cool.

I already raced in the rain a couple of weeks ago in NYC and it was enough for me for the year.
WHAT! NOT TIED DOWN SUNDAY? COME RACE IN THE DRY WEATHER @ THE G-P&R @ 1PM.
Brian will be there with his timer. No points, round-robin if possible. We will decide Sunday morning if we think the pavement will be dry enough to make it possible.

6:45am wake up call.
Sunny and cool. Channel 4 says it won't be as likely to rain as they thought. If it does it will be scattered and late in the afternoon.

It really is like a curse. The weather forecast for this weekend had been looking really good, but as soon as Brian noticed and mentioned it (I'll bet Brian didn't knock on wood), it was bound to change. Then, when I realized Brian had cancelled the race, I knew we'd get some kind of freak break in the weather that could've been a race. Oh well... at least the drought is over.
