DaveG, It’s a race, not a course on artistic landscaping.

The density of the forest blocks the wind from reaching the slalom spot at Fountainhead. Otherwise, nobody would consider using it.

If say, one of the trees in this dense forest of yourn were to fall, and you hit 3 cones on your run, and there was nobody there, would the tree make a sound? And would you count the 3 cones?? Just a thought!
ENJOY!! (while you can)

Yeah, everybody knows spots that are blocked to auto traffic with decent pavement and pitch shouldn't be considered!

It's all about blocking the wind!

Let's practice our slalom on the slopes & in the pipe at Roundtop this wknd. Lib & W'tail are lame and pipe-less...even with this brutal cold(great snow-making weather)these 2 places don't intend to blow their pipes...complain to them via e-mail!!!

I'll be shooting for the 2-4 session. C-Yalls dere.

Some vert-style knee pads would really brighten my day. Anybody know of a place that sells them in our area? Fredericksburg only has Rector Fatboys, which I'm not too into.

Britanny, the directions to Fountainhead are in my post at the top of this page. There’s a link to a map as well - or just click this for the map.

I don’t know of a street address for the Gaithersburg race site but here is a map of the area - Click for map. Where you see I-270, the railroad tracks, and Route 124 form a triangle, that is the park & ride.
If you follow the link on the map for Driving Directions, it will take you to the Motel-6. You can follow them until you get on 124/Quince Orchard Rd, but instead of turning right into the Motel-6, you need to continue on to the next traffic light. From there turn right and you will be at the park & ride. Drive to the top left corner, then park & skate.

Since map-site directions can be confusing, here are my directions:
Take I-66 East, then take the beltway inner loop (towards Baltimore), then take I-270 North, then take exit-10/Clopper Rd. At the second traffic light take a right onto Quince Orchard Rd. Go through the next traffic light and when you pass the Motel-6, start looking to your right. At the next traffic light, you will see the park and ride on your right. Turn right into it. The upper left corner of the lot/hill is where everyone would be at.

Hi Terence. I am looking for a pair of size-M knee-pads that have at least 1.5” thickness of padding over the impact area and stay securely on.

Snow sessions....when slalom skate sessions are not possible

Post by John Dillon » Tue Feb 03, 2004 3:36 pm

Hey folks!
When u cannot slalom outside due to damp/frozen/salty conditions, go do slalom on the slopes nearby....it's only 1.5 hrs to drive to Whitetail and/or Liberty or 2.25hrs to Roundtop.

I need to ride......NOW

Post by Anthony Smallwood » Fri Feb 06, 2004 3:40 am

Last week, out of a combination of boredom, desperation and curiosity, Doug Dupin and myself took turns pulling each other along the frozen C&O canal with a bike and rope. It was more fun and not as spooky as I imagined. The idea is to keep a strong grip on the rope so if the ice breaks, your people can pull you out....hopefully. Doug has pushed me into more crazy shit than the devil himself! This time, I think he's on to something. We plan on going out with sails when the conditions are right.

Are we desperate, or what??

I just got a serious beat-down from my girlfriend after she read my last post....I think the part about "going out again when the conditions are right" was what set her off. She reminded me that I almost lost my pinkie finger riding with Doug recently. She has her own vivid memory of the incident as I stopped to visit her and her mom at a fancy restaurant shortly after, pinky finger split knuckle to knuckle.

When lying on your skateboard like a street luge and chasing your stand-up partner who just knocked you off your board in a collision, make sure you keep you fingers clear of the wheels and make sure you wear gloves. Two things I left off my checklist.

Jack, that thing would be awesome. Can we borrow it?? We actually rode a Migration speedboard with Krypto's. Last week when it got up to 45 degrees it melted a bit so the top of the ice was a thin layer off water and it kept us in a groove. You really didn't slide unless you pushed it. The slides btw, were a blast.

I've got a set of those blades somewhere!! I'll dig them up and send them to ya'' (They SUCK) I think cutting down a set of real skate blades and drilling them would be 10x better! I had a sail and never got going over 10 mph and it was too much like work! They won't hold an edge
