Hi All,

OUR SKATEPARK IS COMING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please start spreading the word that there will be a meeting on Friday, November 18th for all skateboarding enthusiasts to discuss the design for the new Olney Skateboard Park scheduled to open next summer. It will be from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at the Olney Manor Indoor Swim Center in the All-Purpose room. This is an opportunity for all the young people interested in giving input to the design to meet with the representative of the company who is going to design the park. If you have additional questions about the skatepark please contact the Project Manager:

LBK,
I wish, but I am a Montgomery County resident, so that counts for something. I think I get to vote for the Delegate who sponsored the bill to get the $$$.

Great, it sounds like you have a dog in the fight.

Any news on who was selected as the park designer?

"Site Design Group : Design

What's the Square footage?

Think the park can be inviting and open like Arlington is. You know low fences so you don't feel like you are skating in Guantanamo Bay. Helmets only so there is no Pad Nanny's to deal with. And management that is open to the skater's suggestions and needs.

As for designs, I kind of like a park that flows together but in reality with the "heads down" style of skateboarding that goes on today (collisions, etc.), having separate bowls from the street area seems to work out better.

Let me know if Surfrider Foundation can lend a hand on anything. I'm now the "Skateboard Coordinator" for the DC Chapter.

LBK,
I don't remember the sq.ft. #'s 11K? Maybe Dillon or Bracken will remember.

As "skateboard coordinator" of DC SF, you should maybe start watching this board:

here's the thread about the Olney meeting (over there)
