Fountainhead closes on Nov 13th.

I think Dec 10th would be a good date.

What does everyone think?

Ohm, that just might be the perfect weekend. I am currently attempting to organize an art show of Steve Olson's work here in DC (Fight Club) that weekend. Not sure if there is time but we are going for it. Surfrider wanted to have an X-mas fundraiser the same weekend so we'll probably combine the two events into one big party. A race would be icing on the cake. I'm sure Olson and O'Shei would be stoked to race while in DC.

Even if we don't have the party, let's have the race.

What part of Fountainhead?

Are we talking about the front hill or the back hill?

Parsons has me so scared of the back hill that I'll probably just stay home . . . unless you can guarantee a "B" start?

WT, I imagine they're racing slalom on the front hill and downhill on the back. Slalom on the back hill would be pretty heavy, though BP and Ohm seem to have gotten a little crazier of late. Don't put anything past them. Come anyway. You can wear my leathers!

It's the back hill, Ohm and Parsons are all about speed these days!

excuse me guys......don't leave me out

My race will be on the back hill/left side. Not the big left hander with the guard rail on the right side.

It has a run out, it's fast as hell, it's OUTLAW. Bring your balls, it's not for everybody.

WT, you'll be fine.

Cabbage, now you're in my world.

Smallwood, BLR will dig it.

Stay tuned for details.

oh... the smack talk is already starting. should be a good race.

After the slalom race we're gonna have a downhill on the left side, for those who dare. We've talked about this before but I'll say it again--this hill is no damn joke!
Slider gloves and fullface suggested. Ability to swim a plus. Tutu manditory

Left! No, right! No, left! No, right....

Capt. Dyslexia says Anthony means the right side for downhill.......same caveats apply

God...you guys keep breaking my balls with these dates you set...on December 10th my band is play at Jaxx nightclub in springfield....depending on when we soundcheck and how much you plan on beating the shit out of me into the gaurdrail on that left hander will mean the difference in me showing up....The only body part I'll allow you to break is my left leg....I could get by without double bass and the hihat clutch down. BRING IT! Oh and slalom? whats that? cones and such? I thought that stuff didnt exist in this area anymore....

hahahahahaha

Flis,

Blow off that Jaxx gig and play Fight Club instead. C'mon, how often does Olson and O'Shei show up in DC? Nah, that sux cause I'd like to see you guys play.
Don't worry about being pushed into the rail at Fountainhead. I'll be well in front. hahahahaha!!! even Doug couldn't catch me last time. Of course if Ian comes, all bets are off. (he might)

We're riding Rock Creek tomorrow. You available??

Sorry man right now jaxx is a little more important due to the fact that if we sell all 50 of the tickets we were given they will kiss our ass meaning opening for some big bands meaning getting huge recognition and we climb the ladder a little bit more.
In terms of racing though just know this: I learned to take a toeside turn the other day that you'd probably think is impossible from the top of the hill because the path is about 6 feet wide and you hit this turn at about 30 to 35 and its all dusty and leafy and wet in spots and I had to learn to toeside drift the kebbek style to pull it off. So I say this: TRY AND CATCH ME. Oh and if i race slalom too you know ill get my ass handed to me but it's so fun what happened to the dc area?

Since we're telling tall tales: The other night I was bombing down 18th Street towards Florida ave on my Caften, cars everywhere, wanted to shoot across Florida but cars were coming across from the left.
Woulda been t-boned if I went straight, so I turned right on Florida alongside a car, both of us doing 25-30. Right when I got parallel with the back of the bumper, I cut back against the grain to the left, in front of the second car at speed and shot thru the intersection. Maybe two inches to spare. Any error and you'd be reading my obit. I wouldn't have even tried it on any other truck but my beloved JimZ's. There are times when 30mph is way heavier than 60mph. Don't let my girlfriend hear about this!

see my traffic segment in "Urban Surfer" for more thin line riding.

So Ohm, any details. everything still look scary.

What do you guys think of doing sort of a stage slalom race. Three single lane events. Hybrid,GS and downhill and combine the times to determin the winner.

Just an idea.

Aaron, unfortunately I have to keep the Dec 10th date. I have an earlier commitment on the 3rd. Can your dad change his schedule?

BP and others, Fountainhead looks great. We will need to clear the leaves from the side of the road. Hopefully I can secure a gas leaf blower. Funny it doesn't look hairy since just skating the derby hill in NC, but I know it is still gnarly.

BP, that format sounds rad. I know that hill can offer alot of options. I definately want the GS to be the main race. Can we count on you setting the Hybrid? What side will the DH be on?

We should start qualifying around 10am.

The downhill has to be on the right side. And if it doesn't involve multiple riders at once, i'll stay home.
Just kidding, not trying to be a prima donna but PLEASE can we race downhill on the right and run 2, 3 or 4 man heats. Run a "B"single racer downhill on the left if you must, but let those who choose so race the heavy stuff.

Another idea would be to run multi-man heats like we always do for 1st place in downhill racing then as a side event have everyone take an individual timed run for the overall title.

Anthony, the downhill race is your baby. However you run it is up to you.

My only thing is being careful and running a safe race to protect Fountainhead for a possible future legit race site.

Well I'm willing to run the right side in a pack I dont see why anyone would object to it except for the falling off the face of the earth if you f#@k up that turn but just dont screw up right? In fact I was counting on it being pack racing through that corner to make things hairy and interesting even more so then lets say the last few runs in rock creek park. I dont think Ill run slalom for a time or very hardcore cause I feel much more conifdent running through that left turn with 2 or so other guys then I do running that left side weaving cones before a huge gig. But we'll see since I will be there no matter what. Can we get some times for this too?

Thank you Ohm. Don't worry, no one will get hurt. If they do, we'll load them up with rocks and push 'em over the side into the water and carry on.

This will be the first race in the DC Downhill Underground Triple Crown.

What's the runout like at Fountain Head for the DH and the Slalom?

Not the owner of leathers at the moment and have limited experience in running multi-racer formated DH's so probably will be an observer on that part of the weekend. Working on getting there for the other stuff though.

Any photos of the hill?

hell yeah

Runout is no problem, just shoot up a road that goes slightly up a hill and links to the hill on the other side. It's kind of a big circle of fun. If you miss the runout it's trees and a 40 foot drop to a lake. No worries, if you miss the trees the water is not that cold yet. If you hit the trees it MedEvac time. Really, it's totally safe.

runout

Both courses are part of a loop. Kind of a parabolic slice. Slalom side is the left side with the runout taking you a good way back up the downhill side, which is the right side, and visa versa.

If you have back issues of Concrete Wave, check out the one with Eric Dressen on the cover. There are shots of the hill in the DC story.

So, it looks like there will be an art show that night featuring the works of Steve Olson, Ben Ashworth, myself and others at Fight Club along with Surfrider Foundation's X-Mas party, along with John Dillon's birthday party.... just another slow saturday.

We have a small kink or two to work out, so it's not official yet. Don't be tellin' your posse!

Thanks Ohm. You know me, I am totally into being safe. I think I can handle it. I will try my best to stay on the runout part and not ruin the weekend by requiring the MedEvac.......
At least at Hobby Park I all have to avoid is the guard rail....of course, none of you got to see Bluegill when you were here...talk about freakin sketchy......

Looking forward to seeing my DC area Bros again soon...and finally getting to ride with Cabbage.....Justin and Holly still talk about seeing you at Lansdown.

Marion, Fountainhead is safer the the guardrail at Hobby Park. And the protruding Soap Box Derby start ramp at the top that racers pushed furiously through.

Fountainhead Update.

It's Cold
It's Outlaw
It's on Dec 10th @ 10am ish
Its' Fast
It's ON

Danny Boy, bring your gas leaf blower! Brooms too! Dan, go like you were going to Vans.

BP, are you bringing your timer?

Directions, sort of. Take 95S to the 123 Occoquan Exit. Follow 123 about 3 miles to Hampton Road. Turn left on Hampton Road and go another maybe 2 miles and look for the Fountain Regional Park sign and turn left into the park. Park at the bottom of the hill, carry your gear over the gate and keep walking until you see water.

This thread got kinda quiet.

Ron Olsen, myself, WT & The Marion Man are working a little road trip for the 10th. Is all still a go? What's the weather like? Anybody got a local zip code so I can run a 10 day forecast?
