DC Outlaw Summer series

Hey, if nobody's running a Summer Series, and Brian will let me use his timer, I'll take the helm. I'll peruse the calendar and post up some dates in a day or three.

I'm not the most experienced course setter, but hey, any racing is better than no racing!

Also, all saturday races will have Sunday as a rain date ( Hi Kevin ;) )

Hey, Dan.

I was talking w/ Ohm at the Athens race, and he was proposing that we do a shared gig where everyone takes a race, and is responsible for the course, special theme, refreshments, door prizes, pin the tail on Vlad, etc.

Let's get the dialogue started and get a schedule together.

PADan,

If it's scheduled, they will come.
Thanks for stepping up.

Also, not to change the subject but to run along side of Dan's suggestion, there has been some nattering and muttering amongst the faithful about getting a little bored with the Park and Ride. We all agree it's a great spot with a great surface, but it's been played out with every conceivable course.

Has anyone found another spot, even another parking lot with different scenery, that can accommodate a Saturday afternoon outlaw race? Y'all know I want to invite you down as soon as I can to Hobby Park in Winston Salem, but that's a good six hour drive for most everyone in DC/VA/MD.

Fountainhead is cool, but off limits in the summer. Can someone cruise some other state and county parks looking for slalom spots? I wish we could race on that frontage road at Manassas, but it has through traffic and is unusable.

Anyway, I'm not complaining, just suggesting. If nothing else, if we can step back from the P&R for a race or two and come back to it later, it might look better after a little variety.

Race #1

Saturday, June 18 (rain date Sun. 19)

Course will not be super tight... to accomadate newbies.
I will try a handicapping system so that everyone will be rewarded for their effort.
There will be prizes of either cash or gift certificates.

The fastest 4 (or 8 depending on turnout) qualifiers will have a cash shootout:
$5 to get in, cash prizes.

Please respond here if you plan to attend so I can get a rough estimate of the number of racers.

Anyone who can assist for course setting please PM or e-mail me.

Practice will start at 10:00, racing at 11:00

Cheap American beer may or may not be available.

C'mon guys, don't let it die!

I've never been busted at the spot on the bottom of the page. Didn't seem to bother the church people. There's also the spot we used prior to the race GBJ had at the P&R (DC Open I think)on Girard street in G'burg. They use the parking lot on Girard as a staging site for parades and things for Old Towne day in G'burg and other events.

There's a race this Saturday! Yeah!

I'm not into the money pot thing though. I already spent mine on gasoline and donation to GSL.

See you there!

Sorry guys I have to back out because I have band practice all afternoon while we prepare for our gig at Jaxx. I'll let you all know what date when we get it (its a very shady thing right now) but we are definately playing there in the very near future. Hopefully some of you can make it out and listen to some good metal. Have fun at the race. It's too bad i wont be there to take everyones money :)

Thanks for the offer Andy, it would be a big help if you'd do course-setting.
I'll be there by 9:00.

Whoever has Brian's timer, can you get it there by 9:30?

Also, can anyone with Turner cones be there around 9:00?
Or at least drop the cones off.

Dan, I'll be in Sayreville,NJ w/Nino at a BDS Eastcoast Skatepark Jam on sat. Brian has both timers...if Brian cannot make it, then perhaps WesE can snag them back? Let me know if it gets rained out as I can make it on Sunday. Have fun!!

Hey, I have both timers.

I will be in Va beach this weekend. Hopefully the waves will come up.

I can bring the timers to someone today. Someone give me a call and let em know what to do.

I hate that I am missing this. But since its Fathers day weekend I cannot get away.

I'll bring cones, cold beer and a camera; I just can't stand not showing up when someone has to drive more then 15 minutes to get there - we communists were raised that way.

Noah, it is dead, but the North is on fire! ;)

It's in Gaithersburg, on Quince Orchard Rd, directly across from the exit-from/entrance-to I-270 South.

Race # 1 Results

Posted: Mon Jun 20, 2005 1:06 am
by Dan Mitchell
Well, we did indeed have a small turnout.
It was nice to have Andy (GBJ) racing again :)

GBJ set a fun course, not super tight but fun (I think I already said that)

We used a single lane due to the limited number of racers.
Wind was a factor, as it intensified later in the race.

Here are the results:
1. Vlad Popov, aka Pinko Commie (Hey, at least he brought beer!)
2. Mike Ohm, aka Omega
3. Wes E, aka WesE
4. Dan Mitchell, aka PA Dan
5. Eric Wallgren, aka Geezer-X
6. Andy Bittner, aka GBJ

Everyone else-LOSERS.

I understand some had previous commitments, but we need to keep the DC racing
scene going.

Should we go back to having longboard races in addition to the regular race?
Should we seek out other venues? (Some are already looking into this)

Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance.

It was blowing the other way yesterday; so hard that 100 cones weren't skatebable even with one push. The Saturday's race course got 2 full seconds faster - it's much better at speed. I think it's one of those rare hybrids that ask for spray paint. Minus the first cone. It's like the last year's pre-Gathering hybrid, but not as tight.
