Hey my slalom friends!
As the Snowrider Coordinator for the DC Chapter of The Surfrider Foundation, I am recruiting volunteers to help inner city high-schoolers from Washington, DC to learn how to snowboard. In fact, this sunday, december 5th, 2004 myself and lbk will be helping the DC Chill Coordinators and the National Coordinator set up the Chill gear room at Whitetail. It all starts at 10am and may go on til 4pm. So, if you have time and aren't running cones this sunday, then come on out and help out....that way I can tell you more about how you can earn yourself a free lift ticket at Whitetail to use before and after the Chill kids come out. Beginning the 1st week in January and running for 6 weeks you will be helping outfit the kids properly, selecting boots that fit, handing out gloves, jackets, snow pants, hats. On the slope you will coach the kids, help them out, re-inforce the instructor's goals and directions. Basically, you'll be interacting with the kids in a positive way to help them experience a snowsport that they otherwise would most likely never get to try. If you can teach snowboarding, then you can get involved even more so. Work just one evening or many evenings, preferably atleast 2 weeks with the same group of kids(ie, the same day each week) Options are available on mondays, tuesdays, wednesdays, and thursdays. Meet the bus at Whitetail's gear room between 5-6pm. Sign up in advance and you can snowboard all day before the kids come up. The Program winds down around 8pm, help put away all the gear, clothing, etc and say good-bye to the kids til next time...you can go back to the slopes til they close at 10pm...simple,eh? Well, then call me on my cell:443-610-8488 if you are interested...I will have volunteer forms on sunday for those who show up then..I will need 2 personal references.....oh yea, we are also mentors and roll models...so, no time for alcoholic beverages....drink one when you get home if you wish. Do I have to add that by snowboarding you can help to stay in shape for your slalom racing?? Come on out and I know it will be more rewarding than you think!
