Pre/Post Gathering festivities

Post by Brian Parsons » Thu Apr 08, 2004 3:58 pm

Hey all, the Gathering is getting closer and I want to throw out a few ideas about pre event and post event activities.

Last year we did an outlaw race - meet and greet, at the park and ride in Gaithersburg on Friday night. We will also be doing that again this year. However, understand all of the issues that go along with an outlaw race. No permission or permits and the cops could, and have, showed up to shut us down. Be on your best behavior, and I know I don’t need to say it but don’t have anything with you that could put you in the Montgomery county pokie until your arraignment on Monday. This race will start at approximately 8pm and go until we are finished or until we get shut down. If anyone wants to step up to volunteer to run this just let me know.

I need some ideas for post race festivities on Saturday. Last year we all went and got burritos and then ended up at hotel rooms at the hotel Joe found. Since several of the out of towners are staying here this could be a good meeting place. We can also try to find a sports bar that will allow us to show some videos.

Andy, do you know if anything is in that area that would put up with us for a night?

Post up your ideas and I will do my best to make it happen. I would invite everyone to my place for a throw down but I am at least a 1 hour drive from Gaithersburg.

BP,

I don't want to say too much out loud, but didn't a certain DC downhiller want to host a party at his art gallery Saturday night?

Check with Anthony and see if his plans have changed.

Hey folks,

I'll still be having a party though I don't think we'll be able to throw down with the art part. My plan was to exhibit skate related art and I have gotten a few artists interested in submitting work, but I don't think I have the time to undertake that sort of event.

I do think it would be a good idea for people to come to Adams Morgan and party. I have ton's of space and a few TV's to watch vids. There's a huge party every weekend right outside my front door, so people could scramble up the block and check out some of the bars, then head back to the loft. Whatever. Plus, anyone coming in could park and ride metro. I think they run until 2:00am on the weekends.

I start vacation that weekend so, I'M PARTYING!! Who's up?

Hey Danny, Alex will be there so it should be fine. Then again, he's been going with me to Madams Organ and the 9:30 club and hanging with the big boys since he was eight. Expect everyone from the Secret Service to local homeless dudes

There won't be any strippers if that's what you're wondering.
There is a raunchy strip club a few blocks away if anyone feels the need.

I think it'll be cool then. I've been backstage at the 9:30 club and seen a couple concerts there and my dad doesn't mind so it's all good.

post gathering party

Post by Anthony Smallwood » Fri Apr 23, 2004 5:30 pm

Wanted to kick out an update on the party plan. There WILL be a party sat. nite in Adams Morgan at my loft or my friends rooftop, one or the other. I've got a lot of work to do in my loft and if I can't be ready by saturday, we'll throw down on the roof. This is the time of the year to be in DC.
I'll post directions, updates etc. in a few days.

If we party at my spot we can have an impromptu, indoor 10 cone slalom contest.
Flat wooden floor, one push and everybody rides the same vintage clay-wheeled board.

Se you freaks in a week

I don’t know what that’s about. The only concern I usually end up having about night races concerns cone colors on dual lane courses.

Thanks for taking inititive on this, Mike. The Motel-6 Classic is officially ON!

Hi Eddy,

But most of all aside from bringing all your skate stuff it is important to bring as many Texas Oulaws with you as you can!

See you at the Gathering,

Well, the course is set and briefly tested. It's not hard and it't not easy. I would classify is as a loose hybrid with a twist. 50 cones with 7', 8' and a couple of 6' cones just for fun. The twist hasn't been seen much but it is fun and makes things interesting. There will be enough traditional courses at the Gathering. Hope to see everyone at the Park and Ride around 8pm.

I checked it on my way to work today. Pretty cool there guys.

Definitely a hybrid!!! (I won't reveal any secrets...)

I don't know if I'll be able to make the Friday night race, maybe I'll have to go on an errand and get lost... ;)

Twisted it is. To say the least...

To call it nontraditional is like to say nothing with a twist.

The secret's out. The Mama Goose is not hatching.

I have Brian's timer. And enough orange succer cones... to complete the twist.

Ohm,
I most likely will not make Friday's race...

BUT

I will be shuttling Alisa and Katti to the Summerfield Friday afternoon, and could leave 25 white cones with them.

Let me know if you need them.

Went and looked at the Friday night course, which isn't all that twisted. However, a bigger twist may be the fact that the light sensors on some of the overhead parking lot lighting seem to be failing, which is causing several of the lamps over the course to cycle on and off fairly quickly.

Sucks I can't make it tonight but the course should be fresh. Draw straws...the short one sets whatever he/she feels like.

Hard to believe it was one year ago tonight that Paul Dunn set the course for the Motel 6 Outlaw 500. That was a blast....

Pay up sucker...

Look forward to reading results from tonights race.

Have fun.

Noah, Curious to know whether your friend who was checking out the P&R course, might've been in a flatbed tow truck. There was a flatbed tow truck idling in the lot when I pulled in. If that was your friend, then the person he saw was me, and I wasn't riding. I did stop by to check out Ohm's "twist", and walked the course, cone-by-cone, from top to bottom, but when I was there (around 9 pm) I was the only one there and didn't even have a board with me.
