The topography of Park & Ride makes it really impossible to predict which way the wind will be blowing at the spot. It's funky.
You've got the bridges at the bottom pushing the wind one way.
You've got the gazillion lane highway at the top pushing it another way.
The hills with the car dealership alter it another way,etc...

More often than not it blows uphill. I can think of maybe one or two times that we've had a tailwind there.

Anybody found anymore spots?

I hear ya Slappy, the P&R is a bit of a funnel.

I told GBJ about a potential spot in Germantown, east of the intersection of 118 and 355, going north from 118. It is a wide, straight, closed road (we're talking Jersey wall across the bottom), but it is lighted?!?! The problem is, there's no good runout, it would be footbrake city, and I'm too much of a newb to know if the pitch is right. Also, I haven't checked to see what the quality of the asphalt is.

...but I'm looking...

OK, Its time to make a decision on this weeks outlaw race. Weather is looking good and everything should be dry.

The race on Saturday will be at the P&R in Gaithersburg. Expect a dual course that is beginner friendly.

Longboard practice will start at 10am and dual racing will start around noon. If anyone needs directions just drop me an email or give me a call 703-901-5167.

I will have a couple of brooms, but if everyone could bring one we can take care of any surface problems in quick order.

See everyone on Saturday.

Sunny
Breezy
Temps in the high '40s, low '50s
Relatively dry roads

I can think of NO GOOD REASON for certain members of the NRA to be absent?
Well, other than the fact that certain members are drunk off their ass at Mardi Gras. Other than that, no good reason.

See y'all Saturday.

Danny we should get your dad to skate because i know hes cool enough and i think thatd be awsome if he started riding with us and drove us places and all to ride...plus itd be fun racing against him...well ill see everyone there saturday i cant wait because ive been counting down this week for the race and im ready...oh and ill bring a broom too. I had an idea for an invention simalair to a plow for longboards but itd be a broom to sweep away sand and salt and dust off the road and you could adjust the height of it so you can control the amount of resistance or take it up all the way so you can ride but itd be a lot of work to make.

I'm gonna try and make it out Sat., but...

.... Valentine's Day for slalom?

I'll try and tell my wife "what about *my* needs?"

Don't know if it's going to fly, though.

I thought the same thing until I realized: MOST of these guys will spend Valentine’s Day with Rosey Palm. The others have no problem with a 4-5 hour absence in mid-day. For me, these races are 6am-9pm with my travel time.

My wife is cool enough not to buy into the Valentines BS. But when she coordinates a swanky birthday dinner with several friends on the 7th and then postpones it one week because Noah has a race on that day, she just laughs and says “tough sht” when the weather pushes the race back to the 14th. Go figure.

Have fun guys. My money’s on WesE.

V-Day

Post by Rene Hayden » Sat Feb 14, 2004 6:44 am

Oh, yeah, it's bogus...

but trying to weasel your way out of spending the one day that you're "supposed" to spend with your gal or guy to go do the shimmy for 5 hours with a bunch of ne'er do wells...

doesn't look too good.

And my wife is one of the ones that doesn't go for V-day much, either.

oh, well, maybe I'll see y'all out there. If not, next time.

Rene.

Wow, Sorry I did not really realize that the race would be on Valentines day. And even if I had I am not sure it would have changes anything.

This is our 4th Dc winter race. Last year we ony got in one. So if it in the 50s and dry. Im skating.

Its all about setting expectations. Noah is too new at this to have it down. Ohm , Davemo, LBK and myself have it wired.

Post by Rene Hayden » Sun Feb 15, 2004 3:33 pm

oh, Bri...

if you put it together, any race at any time is a good race at a good time, especially in non-freezing, non-wet winter conditions.

but just not for me, but that just sucks for me.

you all will have to give me the secret to "setting expectations."

hope you all set a nice heart-shaped dual slalom track.

smoochies,

XOXOXO

Noah (and others)

BP posted this in the results thread for the 2/14 race.
The next Outlaw slalom race will be on March 6th. This is a week later than previously planned due to the weather delay. We will make a decision on location once we see what the weather is going to do.

Yes, the next race will be on March 6th. This is due to the weather delay. I decided to do this since there are so many out of town racers. This allowed them another weekend to take care of the "honey do" list or whatever before another trip back to DC.

However the weather is going to be absolutely great in DC this weekend. It would be a shame not to get out and skate somewhere. Anyone know the condition of Landsdown. Or we can hit the P&R for some slalom practice.

I am good for anything. As long as its outside and does not involve snow.

As of last week, Lansdowne was 90% Skateable.

The only unrideable part is the section that connects the upper run to the lower "freestyle" area. (Still full of sand/mud, although the locals are slowly clearing it out.)

I plan to skate there Sunday. Lots of old schoolers heading there both days this weekend.

well that blows...the first weekend in a while that I a) have my ducks in a row to have my saturday free, b) motivated to go race (it's been about 45 days since I have been on a skateboard) c) the weather is going to rock d) don't mind getting up early in the AM to drive to DC...

and no race, uggh. I was actually really looking forward to it!

Oh well, such is life...

I can't do next weekend, it is the opening weekend for the F1 season...so I'll be glued to the TV and the web watching results come in from Australia.

This Weekend

Post by Mike Ohm » Fri Feb 27, 2004 4:36 pm

Talked with Brian this morning. No race of course but the weather will be killer. Who wants to still get together for some racing/training?

Sunday looks like the best day too.

Oakwood Road-GS is my vote.

Noah, will you make the trek? Sat or Sun?
Vlad, 13, Joe I.

I'm going to be riding somewhere on Sunday. It may be with you guys, it may be up here in the Park and Ride or I may decide to go out to one of my private spots to train alone. (I never actually seem to do any training when I'm with a group) However, one way or another, I'm gonna be out there somewhere.

I thought it would work out best for everyone.

If Sunday is a better day and you guys are realy wanting to race. We can do a informal session at the P&R or hit Oakwood for some scary GS.

I would love it if any or all of you guys would take a trip up here! And if it's not too short notice, let's do it tomorrow or sunday or both! Crash at my place- no problem. Dinner is on Ohm.

As of now, 13 and I are skating tomorrow morn at a big hill. I've got night spots as well. BP, Ohm, Vlad....anyone and everyone! ask the bosses and let me know.

Weekend

Post by Anthony Smallwood » Fri Feb 27, 2004 8:25 pm

Sometime thru the course of the weekend we'll be hitting Oakwood and Landsdown. I'll have some of the gnarly kids from Van's in tow. Not sure yet how we'll lay it out but I'll check the boards to see what the rest of you monkeys are doing....Ohm, have you outgrown the P&R? Sounds like you got the Van Dorn virus. Your cravings for speed won't diminish anytime soon. Keep me posted.

Vlad and Brian, what flavour of slalom would you all prefer? GS, TS, Hybrid. Oakwood, Tysons, Fountainhead, Walker?

Anthony, I must have been writing my post when you were. Yeah, Oakwood was a rush and I need more!!!!!!!!

I was actually thinking flatland at the racetrack. Euro cyber for a change. Maybe pumping around for miles? Maybe hill climb pump? One foot pump?
Backward pump? Pimping pump?

Ok. Oakwood. When and where?
