Hey everyone. I was wondering if there are any abec 11 riders going to the vsblbd next weekend. I see the builtin bearings in person. I dont have the money for them, but they seem like something to aspire for. The only concern i have is that they arent usa made. Thanks and see yall there!

Reminder: Banked Slalom & Flatland Slalom @ Vintage Day is this Saturday 11/22/03.

FLATLAND SLALOM (10am- 4PM):
Free to enter, Jam Session, Unlimited Practice, Declare your three timed runs before each attempt to post up your times, many different age divisions, loaner slalom boards available, bring your medium to hard wheels to win this event.

BANKED SLALOM- (6pm-10pm):
$5.00 donation to Surfrider Foundation, Practice from 4pm-6pm, Rally to match an easy set pace time for a BOZI Complet, Race starts right after the Rally, use a park board with hard wheel (95 duro or harder), Cabbage is the 3 time winner of this Banked Slalom Race.

VINTAGE DISPLAYS- (10am-10pm):
Free to display vintage skateboard equipment or even new boards, first come first serve on selecting primo spots along the fence, bring zip ties to attached boards to the chain link fence, best to bring your own chairs, good idea to bring a table, Surfrider volunteers will keep an eye on your collections for you, anybody displaying or helping a displayer gets to skate all day for FREE.

DISCOUNTED SKATE SESSIONS:
Discounted Vans Skateboard Sessions ($5.00 per session) for longboarders and old schoolers or new schoolers that know how to do old school skate maneuvers.

SKATEBOARD HISTORY TIMELINE FOR DC AREA (10am-10pm):
A long sheet of 2 foot by 50 foot sheet of paper w/ decades marked from the 1950's to 2003 will be taped up on the wall, skateboarders and the public alike will be invited to write down skateboard milestones for the DC Area (DC, VA, MD, DE, PA, NJ, NY, WV, etc.),
Example milestones (not sure on these dates),
Circa 1974 "The Urethane Skateboard Wheel is invented in Purcellville, VA"
or
Circa 1977 "Chris Chaput signs with Belair Skateboard Company located in Belair, Maryland, hence the popular 'Chapstick' Skateboard and 'Lip Bomb' wheels"
or
Circa 1980 "Cherry Hill Skatepark Opens"
or
Circa 1982 'Cherry Hill Skatepark Closes"
or
Circa 1991 "Ramptech incorporated in Virginia by Mike Mapp aka Micro and quickly becomes the premier professional half-pipe builder in the country"

Landsdown session on Sunday the 23rd the day after the Vintage Day.

I just received one of the big Skaterbuilt decks as a prize for the banked slalom race. Beautiful board. Whoever wins this is going to be really stoked.

John Dillon just called and said that there are radio commercials for the Vintage & Longboard Day that are being played on WHFS 99.1 FM. This is a surprise bonus for us at no cost to Surfrider Foundation because Vans is paying for the advertisements.

Note, all the Sponsors such as Tracker, Gravity, Comet, etc. have hooked us up with a bunch of swag/prizes.

Look for raffles at the event (1 ticket for $1.00 or 10 tickets for $5.00) along with prizes for the races.

Just wanted to say Thanks to everybody who made a 1350 mile round trip worth every minute in Virginia this weekend. Dave, Mike, Jeff, Eric, Brian, Curt, John, Joe, Anthony, Cabbage, Rasta, Wes, All the Outlaws, DC/DC...everybody else who we rapped with....you're the bomb...It's awesome to me that a bunch of vet-skaters can welcome in a few newbies like us from Detroit and bring us right into the culture of it all...Whether we were talking about boards or just shootin' the bull..there's no doubt that keeping the scene both intense and fun like you did is what will spread this sport into new areas and age groups....It was a great event and i'm looking forward to doing it again next year. Sorry we missed most of you at Landsowne (we were there by 8:45 am, out and on the road home by 9:30)....y'all have a great T-day....thanks again...If you're ever up the motorcity way, drop us a line...thanks again!

Landsdown was awesome yesterday. I cant stop thinking abut how killer it was riding there with Eric, John, Dave and Aaron. These guys were riding the Ed E longboard all over that place.

Kudos to all involved in this. I couldn't make it, but heard that I certainly missed a GREAT time!!! Hopefully next year...

It'll be a long winter, let me know if there's anything up north (and east) worth making the trip. I'm always stoked for a road trip.

Hey guys, Karl and Jay were at Lansdowne this past Saturday. He said that they had torn up all the asphalt sections between the snake runs, and that the wide bowl area (the one with the humps) was full of water...

Basically not skateable.

I had heard that part of the plans was to put new 'crete in those areas, so I guess they've begun.

So, If you're gonna hit Lansdown this weekend, you'd better have a backup plan...

was the flat slalom set as a cyber slalom course on the vintage day? i dont remember the lengths and stuff

AnthonyF, Nope. I don’t know what it was though. Brian Parsons or Dave Riordon might be able to tell us. Cyber slalom is 25 cones spaced at 6 feet on center, with a 15 foot start and 15 foot finish, and a 3 foot start box. It all adds up to 177 feet, but you also need some room to slow down. The video-game/air-hockey-table area takes up too much room to set the cyber slalom course on that side of the facility. When we were doing the outlaw cyber slalom on the other side, we had the start line right about even with the front-facing fence. The finish line ended up being about twelve feet from the rear-facing fence. We’d run the course and then make an immediate left turn, which was kind of dangerous if people are hanging out in front of those doors in the back that lead to the parking lot. We usually did this on the least-crowded times of the day so there weren’t really any problems. Also, the employees of the skatepark had been in the practice of locking those doors, preventing people from entering there from the outside.
