Eric, Thanks for your reply. Perhaps my question was a bit over the top (under the bottom??) in that it is pretty basic. It's not that I can't turn my board, I've got that part down at least to the point where I can consistently spear cones. Since I'm trying to change my style from parallel to modif...
I realize that this is the equivalent of asking each of you to describe how you eat, because for most of you this will be so elemental that you may not be aware of how you are actually doing it. But in the interest of plumbing the depths of your experience, would you please tell those of us newbies:...
Dave, I had a soft flex black full nose just like yours, probably a similar vintage. The only difference was that it had white paint airbrushed on to the rolled edge. As I recall, the paint only went back to the front wheels give or take. Your board is beautiful, and a true classic. Oh yeah, one oth...
Steve, Actually get that way somewhat frequently. Unfortunately during the work week tho. I'm coming in next week- LAX probably too late to get anything going for Tues evening, but as I get a trip headed out that way in the next month or two I'll send you some info earlier on and maybe I can set up ...
SC: Amen to the pleasure thing. That is what keeps us coming back for more. BUT, to further your analogy, while I can show up at the F1 race in my classic GT, chances are good that I won't qualify to participate in the main event. Skating solo for pleasure is all well and good, but I'd bet it's as m...
As an old school skater returning to the fold, I bring virtually no competitive experience, but plenty of gravity fed hours of skating. My primary venue was Boulder in the late 70's, and thus the source of my conflict and question to the assembled group: Having watched ARA events and the stars of th...

Note the hairline crack, and the dark spot at about 3/4 inch where the gap is a bit wider. When I push up on the bottom middle of the nose, an inch back, I can get this crack to open up to 1/32" or so back at about the 2 1/2" mark. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/Francois_du_Nord/Picture.jpg ...
As for set up, I have every intention of going state of the art, but budget considerations have me assembling something usable for the time being. As you might expect, this has been a fairly expensive addiction to resurrect. In the heat of passion the other night I mounted up some old Gull Wing spli...
Dave Larson is the guy that is fueling the stoke here in Minnesota. Great guy and a real friend of slalom. He's been in the scene for many years, but I don't know if he's gotten outside the midwest or not. He's been the lone ranger up here for quite some time, but in the last couple of months he's o...
Joe, Yes, as a resident of the state with oh so many lakes, I can probably find a boat repair place pretty easily. I did do a pretty poor job of describing the injury tho. So how about if I try again: Even tho the crack is hairline- essentially where the sidewall meets the bottom of the board, in mo...
I just received a slightly used Full Nose, circa 2003. It's got a bit of nose damage that appears as tho it could be a point of concern if not addressed at some point. At present it does not appear to be structural as it stops at least two inches forward of the front bolts of the front truck, so the...

Hard to believe that only a month and a half has passed since my last post. In that time I've picked up a long board, met some local Northwooders who skate with passion, turned some cones, let a couple of guys ever so gently ride my classic, and bought both 50 of my own cones and working on buying a...
As promised, I've got some images to share with you. As stated in my first post, in no way do I claim to be anything other than an ex skater. This forum has quite a bit of expertise on all things Turner, and so I'll defer to others when it comes to identifying what exactly this is. About the only th...
I was on the road the other day and happened to see an article in the USA Today on the resurgence in "long boards". A week or two went by, and this evening I decided to google and see if maybe this old geezer could find a board to ride. As I was looking around at the various new equipment, I remembe...
