It was a pleasure to sit down after breakfast and read the two previous posts.
And Wes, I've printed out your great leaflet, and also some of your course plans. I think they can help many people understand whats going on at a race or practice sesh.

And as for rules, i have never been to any race in Europe where the same rules applied consistantly or the timing was consistant either. I didnt even realise at the Tunnel race in Switzerland that each lane was timed individually, and that it was possible for the skaters to go whenever they wanted a...

I propose that all protests at ISSA events should be preceded by lying down in the middle of the racecourse until the racer is happy with the judgement. Maybe I just felt sorry for Jon Drummond bacause I know what it feels like to end up lying on my back in the middle of a race course. Switzerland w...

Well I thought it was funny. Good one Wes. And Hans, I agree with you 100%. Studying Law has made me curiously lacking respect for Rules that serve no purpose other than to be a waste of ink. By the way, the Rule about right side entry says "Should" which in my mind leaves an element of doubt. A law...

Good thoughts Wes. My solution would not be to add or remove cones in order to fit in with the "rules". I'd throw out the stupid, dumb, pointless rule! What on earth is the reasoning behind such inane pickiness? IS it REALLY important as to which side you enter? And if it is surely it favours goofy,...

Thanks TK...As for paying for stuff, I'm pretty lucky to be able to choose from the best gear out there. I remember last year getting that first set off you (paid for), trading in a motel room like a drug deal was going down. Since then I've used PVD on my medium/tight board (a Roe) and really like ...

Both Roe and Pocket Pistols make excellent tight slalom boards. No doubt there are some others. Also the Radikal trucks are excellent for TS. Even when tight was more popular the equipment was rare, often an upturned GandS bowlrider. I feel we have a great spread of gear these days. And 4ft was neve...

From reports I goy from two British downhillers present the slalom was a farce. The cones were really widely spaced. And the real comp was cancelled with qualifying times being taken as race times. Another case of changing rules after the start of the event. As the two Brits had bothered to take con...

Chris, for your ideal event to be worthwhile a "world" event would have to be confined to say, the top 3 from various countries, with a common determinator. Then a race would be a spectator event apart from the top 3, and would be of little interest at this stage in the resurgence. Or you can have a...

The simple answer to your question at the end of your peice is that if a Skater chose to come along to any race they should feel able to enter. By leaving competitions open to all you encourage skaters to race. Limiting numbers based on where your mother chose to give birth is just a nonsense. In wh...

If you held an American championship i'd whine and whine an whine and shame you into defeat. Or marry your sister, if you have one. I do see your point Chris, but as yet the de-facto "Worlds" has no entry requirement from nations, ie top three only. I'm sure that to get a true "world record" some form of rules whould need to be set. I quite like the idea of the harshness of "no cones or your out". Jani, you've finally flipped! Unless as I suspect you are joking. The whole point of ski slalom poles in skiing is that you hit the pole, but never go inside of the line set by the poles.
