Hyper Shaman aluminum-hubbed wheels
Also, since aluminum is MUCH softer than hardened steel bearing races, the bearings very quickly deform/distort the aluminum hubs under the loads encountered while skateboarding. If you keep the same wheels mounted all the time, probably not a problem. But, if you constantly swap wheels to match rac...

Drumline
Back in the day, a field snare drum sounded like it had some balls. Now, they tune em up so tight they sound tinny and thin, but the rebound is much greater so the drummers don't have to work so hard.

Here are some explanations of some of the standards used for skateboard helmets. These links are somewhat dated, but they give an idea of what to look for. There is a site somewhere that describes the differences in the drop test used for the different standards, but I'm having trouble finding it ag...

I agree with TK; there is still a lot of untapped potential at the Gathering site. Especially the back hill. Last year John Gilmour set a very difficult course on the back hill late on Sunday. Nobody completed the course without blowing out. Communication could be a problem on the back hill since th...

Handling?
So, if pushing with your hands is possibly OK, how do we feel about hand-criddling, or should we call it "handling"?
How can you tell if a racer was hand pushing and accidently touched a cone with his/her hand as he/she passed inside the cone?

Can you give us an idea of your initial impressions of the urethane springs? How do they feel/react compared to the steel springs?

Wes, I'm half afraid to ask, but why does it have to be THIS WEEKEND? Some of the DC Outlaws are just getting back from California, and some of us need more than 3 days notice to travel to DC. I vote for the 11th, as a good warmup for Fayetteville. <font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: Kevin M...

Brian, If you run the traditional slalom first, is that going to give the out-of-town racers from New York/New Jersey/New England time to get to the race? Doesn't matter to me, but think it might affect their participation. <font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: Kevin M. Gamble on 2003-09-19 16...

Sheesh,
I thought maybe I had a good day. But seriously, folks. The winds were kicking up last Saturday; sometimes up the course, sometimes from the side. I'm sure that someone of Wes' body weight is much more affected by wind resistance than some of the more, shall I say, aerodynamic, of the DC crew.

I agree with Curt. 30" axle to axle seems to be a good length, and a lot of skaters have already purchased decks specifically to fit this requirement. If the length requirement would be increased, I doubt I would purchase another deck to fit the new requirement. The standard has to be left alone to ...

Dave, 1. As far as the longboard length spec, 30" minimum axle to axle is good. Manufacturers are specifically building to this spec already, so I think that it would be a bad idea to change the spec again. 6. Along the lines of Vlad's previous post relating wheelbase to cone spacing, I think that each particular setup has a resonant frequency. In other words, when you pump the deck, it responds at a certain rate. If the deck snaps back at the same rate that you are encountering each cone, pumping should ...
