I left some flesh Sunday at the GS site you guys will be shooting the weekend of the 22nd. I managed to find all three slick spots. Sorry I won't be around that weekend to leave some more :) I was feelin' kinda' Bara-like with my left shoulder that day - CNova's got a nice tar pic of my back and shi...

This was the biggest event I've been to in over 20+ years. If anyone cares to know I ditched the Hobie (whoohooo!), built up a CHIxILL deck Novatny built, built up the Nature Boy-O from the Oles garage swap and hooked up an excellent Duane Peters for the next GS. 14th place in a TS just won't do any...

I couldn't help myself. Check the mpg of Lavin Jr., first ever race, check the finish... and the QuickSilver 90Kg deck. Classic in the Lavin style (except he's wearing socks). BTW, he never knew his dad could skate until February of this year - hmmm, what a surprise. hehe :) http://www.ballpicks.com...

Tom, good job today running your first event - we had much fun. The event today was all grassroots and it was great to see some young contestants. Today was Maxx Lavin's first ever slalom race and he cannot stop talking about the back hills we group bombed. Of course he has Oles as a new idol. Thank...

Jon-Pat, you're question isn't dumb. I'm not new to slalom either but recently got back in. I'm sure you will get some good replies to this from those whom have been grinding continuously now for years but.... On a deck with the same wheelbase and assuming same truck manufacturer & model narrow axle...

The Church of Surf
Yeah, I know this is a slalom site but I just read an astounding essay by an interesting writer - Steven Kotler ( West of Jesus: Surfing, Science and the Origins of Belief ). It is in the New York Times Magazine section last page yesterday. There is a connection here for our "kind". Seems Kotler got...

LOL, yes, Christmas time is probably right! I recall something like Bennett doing that before the BennetPro (I think that was the wider second pass) trucks came out. I saw the pics in tha latest Concrete Wave Mag Vol4&5 Spring. It's 10 or so pages in just opposite the "newly" remastered Spinn'in Whe...

New Bennetts
Curious to know if anyone has skated the new Bennetts. The alligators look little changed - suspect to whether or not they are competitive with new "blends". I have only seen pictures of both. When I was a kid I liked the Bennetts but couldn't deal with the cracked plates - I quit that truck after c...

Paul, thanks for the invite! I will be there for the Saturday festivities. Cannot stay the whole weekend :( my parents are flying in for the weekend - my son is graduating Tuesday. Spoke to JHarms and pretty sure I'm set to play. I have not signed up anywhere though, will just show up with a CHIxILL...

Best recurring weekend day for me will be Sunday solid with occasional Saturdays Spring and Summer. Shout back......

Great session. Got some decent video, got the youngins out for a skate (first time Chris Lavin skated Blades slalom), forgot my own deck at home, and froze my ass off. What's with the weather in Chitown?? It was not wet though which was real good. Novatny, high five on the loaner board foot placemen...

Saturday May 13th. Session (Full Moon)
50 cones just came in (not my ghetto cones, Seismics). Got some other gear for the loaner board too.
60% chance of rain Saturday, full moon, mid fifties. Can you ask for better conditions? I'm skating north of the field museum >3PM, bring your speed skates...

LOL, I saw that "hair" on the trucks but thought it was from a sweater or something. Guys, I had a blast. Thanks for making me feel welcome and throwing me a "modern" board to work some setups on - much appreciated. I hit some deep water on the trek to the car and pretty well soaked the bearings - w...

Skate naked and you'll get much publicity. This should set you up nice for the next bigger event. Not if I skate naked but maybe a couple of the younger folks :) I'm very new to the group, and yes, mature - but not new to skating. It's all about promotion, publicity, and an attractive angle or reaso...

Chris, I love your story. I have recently been "reborn" to skating after taking maybe 14+ years from the wheels. Two guys in the area (Chicago) have opened their arms to including me in some local skating festivities; thanks to Tod Oles and Chris Favero for sharing some new modern slalom insights. I...

Anybody up for some skating? Chris, Tod, how goes it in the Chicago area? I'm working too hard and not skating enough. Funny after 12-14 years off and not skating seems I can hardly wait. Anybody up for some lazy skating? Ciao,

Nice Vintage Hobie Flex Found
You guys may not care ('cause I'm totally TS and old school) but I found a mint replacement Hobie setup in Colorado. It's been in a warehouse for years, small pivot full tracks and original Hobie wheels. Looks like it had been used for maybe a few weekends years ago, was sealed in a plastic bag, and...

Hobie Flex Slalom (cutaway) Wanted
I have not skated for over 12 years but am ready to get back in the game. My kids are now 15 and 13 and they use my old boards for fun. They managed to lose my vintage Hobie flex with Powell/Perelta's (given to me by Stacy Peralta in '79 or 80 - I think) cutaway that lead me to many amatuer wins in ...
