They must've had the same ad guys as Carver....the guy in the Carver ad was wearing an Independent hat in that same issue.

I love my Hot Spot wheels. The red ones are fast, yet on rough pavement my fillings aren't jarred loose like with those hard wheels my kid rides. Gonna stack 'em up against my soft Grippins soon. Both are used on longboards so it's not like the world will end if the Hot Spots aren't as grippy. The G...

I got this movie from Solidskate.com called Downhill motion. Great stuff from about '75.

I like my ACS 651's just fine. They are probably from about '79. I used to grind them back in the day but somehow I ended up with a brand new pair bolted to an old board I found in my pop's attic not long ago. The original kingpin on one is a nut head while the other is a flat screwdriver type (prob...

I agree that the 2002's are fine at the rear but have not been able to make them work on the front. I keep falling off the board. My brain thinks I'm about to turn and yet I end up going straight. It seems like they just don't turn well. I tried soft bushings, I trimmed bushing thickness, adjusted t...

Sounds like your "uncles" surfed on powder. That's a cool story. Wonder if anybody else slaloms 'cause of ski background. When I was a kid folks used dixie cups for cones. I know there are a ton of kids who want to skateboard but don't feel like it's cool unless they do the "dangerboy" thing. My mai...

I try my best to be that old guy Jack. In my 20's I didn't do much besides raise kids and fix up a home but when I could I'd show some kid how to "walk the dog" or do some 360's. Then would show them how to balance better or just sit on their butt and ride. In my mid 30's I taught 12-16year olds rog...

That rools how you give to the lonely security guy who I'd say is probably very grateful. I give folks at toll booths a $5 bill and tell to keep the change or pay for whatever the stranger behind me purchasing at the coffee shop in the morning. Once while in Greensboro NC, while filling my gas tank,...

I thought that is a current photo?. Dig that Cooper hockey helmet. When I was discovering kickturns had changed I really didn't give a crap about those stupid Dog Town boys everyone is so excited about nowadays. Still don't actually. I will say the movie got me back on a board though. That and surfi...

I reckon he thinx Martians and Vulcans want to hear his noise. Or maybe he's not making enough $ to pay all those fines AND allimony too. Or maybe his radio audience is shrinking and this is a grab at survival. Wonder if it's available in other languages.

Now that's old school kids. Sooo many things I'd forgotten. Was telling my boy that I thought I had it all wrong on the front-side/backside thing until recently. All I knew was one summer I was doing frontdside stuff and the next it was backside...same trick. Hmmm.

Luv the David Byrne thing. Until about a year ago I hadn't slalomed since around 1980 so I aint into all that "pumpin'" yet. My idea of slalom right now is to set cones about 10' apart and just get used to it again. I suppose when you say break anything, you mean on you? As for me, I don't own any p...

I hear CBS is looking for a good replacement for Dan Rather. Etainne should apply. It's a darn shame that there are bad people in this world. Plain and Simple. Therefore some folks get beat up or killed. I remember as a kid some bad people picking on a kid who after taking all he could would get all...

You're Old School if: You couldn't stand the squeaking of those loose balls so you'd take your wheel off to clean the bearings and drop the balls on the sidewalk and only find 6 of the 7. You thought a plastic deck was the best thing ever, way better than your 2x4. You didn't realize that everyone h...

New to site. I have spent several hours reading the different areas of this site. I'm impressed. But this particular section was the first one I've responded to. Mainly because I'm real glad John Kerry wasn't elected. But also to point out what was said by the fellow from Stockholm was the most inte...
