Re: ideas for Improving Slalom
Mig, I couldn't agree more. The ISSA can really only focus on a handful of large events sort of like the IGSA does for downhill. But those large events are failing because there isn't a constant feed of new skaters to fill the ranks. Why is there not enough of a base of skaters to feed the 6 or 8 b...

I'm sorry it didn't work out Donald. I definitely see the need to showcase the best of slalom to the media and general public. Like Fatboy said, this might not be the right thread but since it started here... I don't see slalom dying just because the top guys travel less to the big, expensive to get...

It's on!!!
We have had the warmest and dryest winter in the last 63 years. So we had to wait only 3 months to skate again, instead of the usual six month break. So Julie, Danilo, and Louis got a couple of practice sessions in before the Texas Sizzler. Here's a vid made by Steve Blouin from sunday's GS session ...

By increasing THE SIZE OF THE TAPE SWITCH at the finish line, you diminish the chance to CAUSE a racer missing the switch, thus also diminishing the chance to suffer the EFFECT of a racer hitting the IR boxes/tripods, timer wire, tapeswitch wire, connector boxes, plugs, banners, or whatever is near ...

Tape Switches ... Stay in place even if a racer is off balance and hits the end of the switch (disaster for IR switches). A racer that can turn at speed within inches of a cone can easily hit a 2' timing strip. Aren't those two statements kind of contradictory, Pat? A racer that can turn at speed w...

So I guess the many racers who have gone down a course set with my timing system did so stupidly. You're guessing wrong. Don't blame them. They did so because you didn't give them a choice... ;) :D Mig - you are using WAY too much common sense. Try to be more ambivalent and vague and less sensible ...

Here's what I usually use, no matter the temps. My choice is more influenced by course and hill. Tight --> 89a 66mm Zigs or 92a 63mm Hot Spots on the front, 86a or 89a 66mm Zigs rear. Hybrid --> 89a 70mm Zigs on the front, 86a 70mm Zigs on the rear. I've been experimenting with the 84a 69mm PPS Cone...

Eddy, Buy Type 131. It's tougher, lasts longer, resists better to bending, and is sensitive enough for any size junior. You won't regret it. I guess we're crazy up here. We have been using 3' for starts and 6' for finish lines at all the races we have used our timing kit. Bottom line is it works gre...

This is something Dan probably doesn't want to hear but a 1.5" to 2" lower cone while maintaining the same bottom diameter would help minimize cone hits. A lot of cones are displaced by kneepads (toeside) or lower leg (heelside), and not by the board or feet. No cone penalties and a low maximum hits...

Do you use it with the direct input from the Trackmate? That's what we seemed to have problems with. Only one name and time (right lane) appeared in Excelmate, and didn't want to save to the spreadsheet anyway, no matter what I tried (including a total reboot of all the system PC + Trackmate).
