I thought you sweaty, stinky Texans were gonna post up at P. Graf's house? He said he's got room. Bit of a drive, as Lou can attest, but hey, the price is right. Other ideas: Steve Pederson is staying at the Ramada near the airport and said he might have some room. And Hotwire.com has 3-star hotel r...

Re: DH
Front page of the Sports, there I am in taking turn three in my dorky leathers and all my slowness. Photographically speaking, though, that photo of you is a very striking image--well lit, dynamically composed, clear face shot, etc. I bet Dan G. is happy with it, too. Never fails that the biggest k...

Yup! Thought so. When it came time to send my 1990 323 to the great parking lot in the sky in early 2008, I was chagrined to learn that I couldn't just replace it with my new dream car, the Protege5, because the P5 simply was no more and had been supplanted by the Mazda3. The 3 is a very cool car in...

Re: TS/Hybrid deck for big guys
So I guess I need to start looking for a TS/Hybrid deck. (Kinda sucks since GS scares the hell outta me.) I weigh 280lbs, and am not overly light on my feet. So when I try to pump, I am probably flexing the deck quite a bit. I assume this means that a carbon fiber or kevlar deck is probably not the...

There's not a ton of stuff to do at Babler besides hike, bike or fly a kite. There used to be a public swimming pool, but I'm pretty sure that has been closed for a few years. So the zoo would be a good bet. The St. Louis Science Center is also right there on the other side of the highway from Fores...

Cool, Aaron, glad to hear it. Last year Josh Vantine came over from KC. It was his first race ever, too, and he said he had a good time. Saw him in Austin, TX a few weeks ago, too. How long have you been doing slalom? Do you ride also longboards, street or those amazing skateparks around KC? Come on...

I notice that in the single-lane events you based the results on the sum of each rider's best two times, instead of just on the one fastest time. I would like to see this become the standard way of doing most, if not all, single-lane races. Combining two times would greatly reduce the influence of h...

And people think the USA is too concerned with liability issues. :-( Guillaume, I'm sorry to hear about the ridiculous obstacles you had to overcome just to have a slalom race. What a shame. Oops! I'm a (current) no-show on the list. I will get on that ASAP. And I bet a few others who intend to race also haven't actually signed up yet. This "wait 'til the last minute to sign up" approach has long been a problem for race organizers, including yours truly. I should know better by now. Sor...

John, I agree with Jani, as I think most people would. Why? Because TS and GS typically make very different demands of a wheel. GS tends to have wider, more drawn-out turns (across the fall line) that favor traction, while TS tends to have much quicker, less offset turns (down the fall line) that fa...

I just realized the current rule book specifies that single-lane racing is decided by the best single time, so technically, deciding it on a two-run time isn't allowed. Not to open a whole can of worms here, but if the organizer(s) wanted to try the two-run format, I would vote in favor of allowing ...

Having skated this road before (one side of it, anyway), I'm sure the racing will be bad-ass as usual. One question for you and Jonny: Any chance you'd consider basing it on the best TWO-run combined time? That would at least partly eliminate the headwind/tailwind factor. I've been wanting to sugges...

As Wesley says, various places have been used for sign-ups. I have no particular preference for one site over another, unless/until one consistently stands out. In the past, NCDSA has been that site (in my opinion). This site isn't there yet, although if sign-ups could be done here, it would be kind...

I can't say for sure yet, but the Board of Directors has been discussing ideas for integrating a "one-stop" sign-up location either on this site or on slalomranking.com. It's just discussion right now, as other things are taking even higher priority, but I am hoping it can be worked in sometime soon...

Corky, thanks for the replies so far. Like Rick, I think I actually "get it" now. One final question, just to make sure I do understand: So if sound like a racer who fits into more than one category (such as Masters and Amateur, as Rick does) doesn't have to worry that one division will "rob" his/he...

Just to clarify how it works in the ranking system right now. Master points are calculated automatically from results if no master class is run. Note though that it is the AM or OPEN class results that are used in this case. If running a PRO/AM event it is the AM result only that are used for this....
